The inductive-magnetic-coupling-powered gate driver solution wires a single silicone cable with high insulation performance through the secondary side of the gate driver unit to be powered, with both ends of the cable connected to the output terminals of the primary side current source. By controlling the current flowing through the silicone cable, the primary side current source supplies power to the secondary side driver unit.

The solution meets at least 30 kVac insulation requirements, greatly simplifying the system insulation structure, optimizing the system design, and reducing the system cost. Different from a common SMPS (Switched-mode power supply), the magnetic-coupling powering solution features a complex control design, and thus is more difficult in implementation.

Bronze Technologies launched the high-voltage isolated current source power supply QTJCSP100 and its complementary inductive-magnetic-coupling-powered press-pack IGBT gate driver 1QP0635V45-Q. This complete set of solution has passed a series of EMC and reliability tests. The high-voltage isolated current source power supply QTJCSP100 can deliver output power as high as 100 W at a 48V input and can supply sufficient power to up to 14 gate driver units simultaneously. 1QP0635V45-Q is an inductive-magnetic-coupling-powered plug-and-play gate driver developed specially for 4500V Press Pack IGBT/IEGT modules (such as ABB, Toshiba, and CRRC modules).
